True Confessions of The Straight Man

A 90’s Farce.

The LGBTQ and Sometimes Straight Play.

“Because we all have a rainbow inside!”

Celebrating 53 years of Pride!

Written and Directed by: Antonia Kasper

Everyone thinks Todd Robinson is gay, including the girl he likes, Kate Conner.

Afraid he might jeopardize their friendship, Todd’s façade snowballs into an over-the-top mix-up

of sexual preference and identities, when he gets his reluctant roommate and a Drag Queen involved.

What happens when a straight guy pretends to be gay to get the girl?

Sometimes we have to pretend to be something we’re not...to find our true self!

History of TCSM

Antonia Kasper originally wrote "True Confessions of The Straight Man" as a movie back in 1997.  After sending out to movie industry just a few years later,  she saw similar concepts come into light.
Though meant to be an outlandish over-the-top farce, many elements and concept are rooted in Kasper's real life experiences.

This retro period piece, Kasper believes is a sweet way of bringing different communities and people together.  It's a piece of history or marker of the queer and straight nightlife and lifestyle in NYC in the 90s.  Though she had readings of the script in 1998 at the Raw Space on 42nd street (Now The AllStar Theatre), she decided to showcase the project as a play in 2019 at The Players Theatre downtown during Gay Pride celebrating 50 years of Gay Pride and Stonewall.

Now coming to The Laurie Beechman, Kasper has adapted the show for cabaret setting.

Yes, there is more good to be done for the LGBTQ+  and other underrecognized communities, the changes that have been made in the last 25 years is sprinkled satirically throughout the script reminding us how far we all have come with acceptance in the world.

Antonia Kasper's intention is to continue sending the message that no matter how you identify, who you love, or how you love...that LOVE IS ALWAYS LOVE!
